Dr. Ernest Brown- Deputy Director of Facility and Rehabilitation Services

Dr. Ernest Brown is a clinically and forensically trained Licensed Psychologist. He has more than 20 years of paraprofessional and professional experience serving youth and adults in residential treatment homes and facilities, youth development centers, prisons, psychiatric state hospitals, and the home, school, and community settings. Dr. Brown has been with the South Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice since August 2020, serving in previous roles as a Community Psychologist, Admission Psychologist, and Associate Deputy of Facility Clinical Services.

Dr. Brown is an American Psychological Association Minority Fellow and an accomplished diversity presenter, trainer, and consultant. He has several publications including a co-authored book, over 25 presentations pertaining to diversity and Black male mental health, psychopathology, and treatment, and has provided mental health and diversity/cultural competence related training to law enforcement. He has served as an adjunct professor at the oldest private Historically Black College and University (HBCU) in the nation, Wilberforce University of Dayton, Ohio. He was also an adjunct professor at Bellarmine University in Louisville, Kentucky. Dr. Brown earned his B.S. in Psychology and M.A. in Counseling Psychology from the HBCU Fayetteville State University, and his doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Wright State University School of Professional Psychology in Dayton, Ohio.

The newly formed Facility and Rehabilitation Services area is devoted to all aspects of the health and treatment of youth: behavioral, emotional, spiritual and physical. Chaplaincy and Substance Abuse Services are also included in this area. More coordinated treatments of youth will support more productive outcomes.
